Candidates are required to answer the questions in their own words as far as practicable.

Group “A” – Brief Answer Question: [10 X 1 = 10]

1. Why NTFS is preferred over FAT?
2. How is differential backup different from sequential back up?
3. What do you understand by the term “kernel”?
4. Which one do you prefer RIP or OSPF? Why?
5. Define shadow copies.
6. Differentiate between subnetting and supernetting.
7. What is the major benefit of active directory?
8. Write types of VPN.
9. Why DHCP client must use broadcast transmission to request and IP address from DHCP server?
10. What is the broadcast IP in ?

Group “B” – Short answer questions (Any Four) : [4 X 4 = 16]

11. What is DNS? How DNS is optimized?
12. “SMTP implements an asymmetric request response protocol”. Justify this statement by illustrating communication between two terminals.
13. What is IIS? Explain the key IIS services that are available.
14. What are the different password policies that can be adopted for maintaining the security of passwords? Briefly explain each of them.
15. What are the different types of RAID’s involved with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Data Administration? Explain each one of them.

Group “C” – Long Answer Question (Any Two) [2 X 7 = 14]

16. What is importance of backup and recovery? What are the different techniques that can be implemented for data backup?
17. List out the five sequences of windows XP boot process. Explain boot sequence and kernel load sequence.
18. In ABCD organization, to minimize the wastage of IP address and secure the network VLSM is adapted. There are 6 branches and each branch have their own required number of hosts. You are provided with class C network with default subnet mask.

Branch A: must support 126 hosts; Branch B: must support 54 hosts
Branch C: must support 30 hosts; Branch D: must support 12 hosts
Branch E must support 3 hosts; Branch F: must support 2 hosts

Divide the given block of IPs into subnets to meet the above requirements. For each subnet show the subnet address, the subnet mask, range of the usable IP addresses, and the broadcast address in a tabular form.
